On Broadway, A New Effort To Include Those With Autism

Broadway will include and accommodate individuals with autism at their shows through Seats on the Spectrum. Tickets will be offered to shows both on and off Broadway. There will be dedicated aisle seats to give people with disabilities access to the theater before the show to get familiar with the surroundings. They can choose early seating to bypass the large crowd. In addition, designated areas with toys and noise-canceling headphones available for purchase will be offered for calming and sensory needs. Information will be provided about what to expect in the show to reduce any anxiety. Staff will be trained and educated to support neurodivergent individuals in the theaters for any issues. Furthermore, the audience will be offered educational materials to promote awareness and foster an understanding community. This effort brings a sense of inclusion and joy within the theater community.
